How to find Dragons
I looked for a Dragon one day early last week
But I couldn't find one, not even a peek.
I looked in the bathroom. I looked on the lawn, But by the time that I got there the Dragons were gone.
So I put on my backpack, my coat and my hat, and I hiked to this big cave cause that's where Dragons are at.
On the way I met a sparrow and that's a wonderful thing. She said: "Let me come with you, Dragons love when birdies sing."
So she joined me, the sparrow, and a hiking we went, then we saw a big Rhino whose horn it was bent.
"Oh I'd love to come with you", he said with a smile. "For I've not seen a Dragon in an awfully long while."
So we trundled and troddled, sparrow, rhino and me, up the mountainous regions for a Dragon to see!
The sparrow could see them. "There's one! There's another! Oh, and look there's a blue one...and I think that's his mother!" So the rhino and I would go charge to the spot, but by the time that we got there the Dragons were not!
But we kept all our chins up. We were strong. We were brave. We continued to trundle 'til we got to the cave.
It was dark, cold and fearsome, and horribly black. I got scared so I told them "I gotta go back. For my mother is worried, I'm out much too late. I gotta go back now...I just remembered a date!"
But the sparrow and rhino of this would have none. "We're here to find Dragons!" "We're here to have fun!!!" Well I had to admit that my friends were quite right. I went back to a cave without much of a fight!"
It was black, oh so black, very black in that place. You could not your fingers. You could not see your face. But we looked really hard. On the rocks. On the walls. But there were so many passageways. So many Halls.
Finally the sparrow, who had started to pout, said: "I know how to find them." And the music came out. Now I don't know if ever you've been underground, but a sparrow that sings there is a wonderful sound.
And in less than a second to my enormous surprise we were suddenly faced with two huge glowing eyes.
Then big teeth could be seen. They were shiny and bright. And I said to myself: "I sure hope they don't bite!" But they didn't, oh no, someone turned on the light!
And he stood there the Dragon, one hundred feet high, and he laughed and he danced, then he pulled out a pie. Then he pulled out some candles and cookies he'd baked. And big hats and small ones, and then finally a cake!

And he said to us: "Travellers, I'm glad you're so hearty...for I think you should know this is my birthday party!"
I couldn't believe it. A whole cave filled with Gold...and hundreds of dragons, some ten thousand years old.
We laughed, and we danced, and we sang and we played...'til the sun had gone down at the end of the day. Then I had to go home, but before it was said, my new friend the Great Dragon flew me straight to my bed.
Now the lesson to learn while you're reading this book...is you can always find Dragons if you know where to look!
